Let’s face it. This is Seattle. All the leading candidates are democrats. We all oppose the obscene levels of income inequality. We all want to do something about the affordability of housing for working class people in the City. We all want to find a solution for the runaway homelessness impacting so many. We all support the new higher minimum wage. And that’s all most of the candidates are talking about
But the City is facing a lot more than these issues.
- ending the school to prison pipeline – this means overcoming disparate discipline in schools and on the streets, it means restorative justice programs, it means alternatives to detention, and incarceration, real jobs for youth, and police reform.
- assuring a diversified economy with good paying working class jobs – this means keeping the port working, supporting the fishing fleet, keeping small industry and artists working in the city.
